With this dissertation, I aim to contribute to the digital transformation and the Industry 5.0 research stream. I will explore how the IoT can optimise business success in servitised models across various functions. Using a mixed-methods approach and case studies, two papers will focus on IoT’s potential in replacing business functions and the capabilities needed, while another will address the ethical aspects through employee surveys and interviews. The final paper will present overall research conclusions.
This study aims to inform process optimisation through IoT and the needed capabilities to transform the company and promote ethical IoT adoption, with a particular focus on Finnish and Australian companies. It will address a research gap at the intersection of IoT, business models, and business functions and will conclude with practical and actionable guidelines for Finnish and Australian organisations.
