Abid Ullah

Abid Ullah, is a researcher and engineer specializing in Mechanical Engineering, with a primary focus on materials manufacturing processes. He works on a Marie Skodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) funded project as a research associate at the Institute of Laser and System Technology (iLAS) and is perusing a dual PhD. in Mechanical Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering from RMIT University in Australia and TUHH in Germany under the umbrella of the RMIT European Doctoral Innovators (REDI) Program. Prior to joining the REDI program, he worked and contributed to an EU and Tübitak -funded project in Türkiye.

Abid’s current research project aims to unravel the intricate relationship between processes, microstructure, and properties in Additive Manufacturing (AM). The project seeks to advance AM processes and improve understanding of material behavior through the development of a material model for a specific metal alloy.

Abid holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) and a master’s degree from The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), focusing his research on AM processes in his comprehensive master thesis.

Abid’s research interests include -but are not limited to laser-materials interaction, microstructure characterization, parameters optimization, the application of Multiphysics simulation, and artificial intelligence in AM processes. Abid has made significant contributions to the field, having published over 10 research articles in prestigious, peer-reviewed Q1 journals. He has established some innovative approaches for overcoming issues with laser-printed parts of ceramic and metal alloys.
