Dr. Nardine Osman

Dr. Nardine Osman is a senior scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She earned her Ph.D. (2008) and MSc (2003) in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
She is currently the PI of two national projects (VAE and RHYMAS), and recently, one European project (WeNet). In recent years she has participated in several European projects (such as OpenKnowledge, LiquidPub, ACE, PRAISE, OPRM and currently VALAWAI), led some national projects (CIMBVAL and AppPhil), and has participated in several others (such as the Spanish funded Agreement Technologies and the British funded AKT project).
Her current research focuses on value engineering, leveraging her previous work with multiagent systems, normative systems, agreement technologies and formal verification. During her career, she has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in the main international journals and conferences, with more than 600 citations (Google Scholar). She has supervised two PhD students, and currently supervising three more. Her research has resulted in three copyrights (since the software cannot be patented in Europe), and one of them is being used in industry by Enzyme Advising Group.
Nardine is a member of JAIR’s editorial board and an associate editor of the AI Communications journal, and was vice president and then treasurer and board member of EURAMAS until recently, and the president of some conferences and workshops such as IJCAI 2023’s special track on AI for Good, VALE workshops at ECAI 2023 and ECAI 2024, AT 2016 conference, and the AAMAS 2016 Workshops. Nardine currently leads the Ethics and AI research line at IIIA-CSIC.
